WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Traditional Values Coalition president Andrea Lafferty issued the following statement after the announcement that the Boy Scouts of America will punt until their May 2013 meeting as to whether they will cave into corporate sponsorship, or listen to the millions of concerned parents and young men opposed to loosening the Boy Scout oath:
"Today's announcement to delay until May the decision to permit homosexual/transgender scoutmasters to serve in the Boy Scouts is a punt, nothing more or less.
"Hundreds of thousands of families across America have a decision to make as well.
"Shall parents allow our young boys to be in environments where homosexual and transgender scoutmasters will be in close contact absent parental supervision? Even if local troops do not permit homosexual scoutmasters, how should parents react when morally straight troops interact with homosexual scoutmasters from other troops? What about the Boy Scout Jamboree?
"Morally straight isn't just an idea. It is a Biblical concept rooted in Judeo-Christian values and taught for decades to hundreds of thousands of Boy Scouts. Corporate sponsors, acting as bullies, are directing the Boy Scouts to sell their very essence, their very soul. The souls of hundreds of thousands of young men are far more valuable than any attempt by pro-homosexual/transgender forces to treat corporate donations as bribes.
"I urge the Boy Scouts of America to stand tall, remember the Scout's Oath, and stay true to their principles. It's time for at least one morally straight institution in America to remain proud and faithful to their duty to God and country."
