Clinton, OIC Seeking the Talibanization of Free Speech?

Washington D.C. (December 8th, 2011) -- Traditional Values Coalition (TVC) president Andrea Lafferty has written a letter requesting to be an observer at the upcoming U.S. State Department meeting with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in Washington, D.C. next week.  To date, the State Department has refused to allow domestic observers into this closed door conference.

“Organizations such as the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) and Traditional Values Coalition (TVC) have been frozen out of this important meeting regarding free speech and religious liberties, where Secretary Clinton herself has discussed using “old-fashioned techniques of peer pressure and shaming” to coerce and Talibanize Americans into refraining from statements critical of Islam,” said Lafferty.

Starting Monday, December 12th the State Department will conduct a three day conference negotiating how American understandings of free speech and religious liberties can be tailored to accommodate the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in an effort to prevent what Imam Feisal Rauf has already claimed as “libel”.[1]

“Why is it that the U.S. Constitution must come second when representatives from Islamic counties such as Saudi Arabia and Pakistan demand we must curb our religious liberties and free speech?” said Lafferty.  “Why is our government bending to Taliban values here on the home front?”

Secretary Clinton in a June 2011 conference in Istanbul, Turkey remarked how certain comments from those concerned about Islamic fanaticism have been deemed as “incendiary” and looked to sympathize with efforts that would criminalize certain speech that is “an incitement to imminent violence.”[2]

“This language has been used to attack and condemn Americans concerned about the impact of Islamic shariah law in our neighborhoods, schools, government, and society,” said Lafferty.  “Americans never signed on to submit their sovereignty to the United Nations, nor should they be expected to submit to the will of Islamic countries whose human rights record against women, Christians, and other persecuted minorities continues to shock the world.”

“Americans taxpayers deserve to have observers at this joint meeting of the OIC and the State Department.  If not, we can only assume that our religious liberties as protected by the U.S. Constitution are once again under attack from an Obama administration which continues to Talibanize and erode our constitutional rights,” said Lafferty.
